Sarah

Last year, i interviewed Richard Huckle who worked at one of those companies where they phone you up and ask you to do surveys and stuff over the phone. So now its time to interview somebody else but this time its a very different situation. I offered to do this and wasn't asked to by Sarah at all.

Sarah is 17 and from Doncaster. I have had her on my msn list for over a year and a half after seeing her on a Big Brother forum. Last year Sarah became famous locally after she made an anti-bullying website. She appeared in newspapers, on the radio and on the local news and talked about it. Last year, she also abseiled down a hospital, raising £150 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. She also ran 5km for Cancer Research UK and was sponsored £175.

Sarah's mum died of cancer on Thursday 19th April of this year. Sarah and her dad were told by doctors the previous night that her mum would die and then she died early on Thursday morning. She didn't smoke.

Me: So how old was your mum?

Sarah: 41

Me: And what type of cancer did she have?

Sarah: Ovarian (although it was kidney failure that killed her but the kidney failure was related to the cancer)

Me: When did you find out that she had cancer?

Sarah: about 4 and a half weeks before she died

Me: has anyone else in your family died of cancer?

Sarah: yes, my grandma was one of 9 children, and all but one of them died from cancer

Me: Did you get to say bye to your mum?

Sarah: i went to see her on the Wednesday before she died, and it was that night the doctor told my dad she wasn't going to survive. he didn't tell us that until we got home that night. the last thing i said to my mum was "love you. will see you tomorrow"

Me: So, you've entered yourself for another cancer run. When did you enter yourself for this?

Sarah: the day after she died. this year i was meant to be doing it with my mum and my little sister, but cos my mum was ill we never got round to registering.

So this year, Sarah is running for her Mum and Grandma and has so far got £50 but she needs more. You can donate very easily online by clicking here. When you fill out the form to donate, theres a "gift aid" ticky box. If you pay tax then ticking that box will mean that the tax man has to pay 28% of the money you've donated to the charity at no extra cost to you. Sarah's goal is just £100 but, like both previous times, she can go over that goal so please donate and help her get there.

Thanks.
