My Holiday Blog - Part 1 of 3

posted under by Andrew Hart
Its Friday of the first week of the holiday. We left home at 1 o’clock this morning. Its quarter to 3 in the afternoon and we’re at Dover. We traveled by car and arrived here at about 2ish.

If I have 10 hours sleep a night, that means that I already had 10 hours sleep saved up for the journey here from staying up all night on Wednesday night. I was awake for about an hour through the whole 12 hour journey (20 mins at the start, 20 minutes whilst I had breakfast and another 20 minutes at times I woke up throughout the journey. I’ve worked out that because of the early wakeup tomorrow, this means 15 hours of sleep in the car tomorrow. That’ll be good, better than being awake.

Tomorrow morning we’re leaving at 4am for the Ferry. Nothing else to say at the moment really.

Today is Saturday. We got up this morning and got the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk (oh yes, £20 cheaper than Calais and just 10 miles away. You could buy a new game with that you know!) and then had the plan of going down through France on our way to Italy. Its half 9 and we arrived at this campsite about an hour ago having traveled here all day.

I’m not sure what it is about the people here but they really like to stare which I noticed immediately. Usually its just people looking to see who the new people are but its everyone from around the site (big site aswell) who are staring. I went to the campsite toilet whilst our caravans toilet was being set up and on the way there and back, everyone just stared at me. It wasn’t just staring in my direction cause I was infront of them, people were actually turning around and whist walking forward, stared at me behind them and I just looked out the window before writing this and I noticed some girl just staring through the window at me. Freaky neighbors.

Something I found funny was we have the dogs tied to these poles sticking out of the ground outside the caravan. Oscar barked at a man who went past and instead of saying “oscar, no!” like usual, she said “ohh no no no no nooo” but instead of saying it normally, she said it in a French accent!

Its 8.30pm and its Monday. We arrived yesterday afternoon at our new campsite and heres a few points about it:

Stare-a-thon-is-gone: Well at our last site which we were at for a day, I remember people stared at me a lot and at this campsite (like most others) nobody really does. Thank god for that, I was starting to thik somebody had written some rude French word on my head (such as merde-tête?) or something.

Cramped: First thing my brother said on seeing it for the first time was “its cramped.” And that was just about the entrance but it seems that this is about everything on the site – it’s a little cramped. But not to worry, it’s not too cramped (like past experiences) and it’s fine.

Super Mario: I have noticed that one of the site staff bears a strong resemblance to super Mario. Not only has he got the right moustache, face shape (round) and chubbiness, he is also Italian.

No pool: Considering I’ve been to the Switzerland site we’re going to next week before and I know for a fact that their pool is rubbish, I’m not very happy about the lack of pool at this site. The site goes right out onto a (stone-filled) beach and lake though which other people seem fine with but I don’t like water like that and never go in it anymore.

Yesterday about 2 hours after arriving, I tried the laptop and found that we had an internet signal from the campsite next door. It told me that the signal was only 35% strong so I took the laptop outside the caravan. My mam shoved me back in with it and came in and then I was going to say “I was just seeing if there was a signal.” But I only said “I was just see..” before she shoved the laptop down, knocking it out of my hands. Luckily, there was a sofa there but there was something on the sofa and the laptop just missed hitting it but the usb internet thing was sticking out the back and as the laptop went down, that was forced up and it was bent upwards and then it fell to bits. So after days of waiting to see if I could get an internet signal, she breaks it after a minute.

It turns out she done it cause she thought that I was going to say “I was just saying …” when I could see that she was talking to my dad before and she thought it would have been rude to interrupt their conversation. She asked me to bring my webcam in from the car before, maybe she’s running out of stuff to break.
