Work Experience
I started this blog 359 days ago and whilst i started it, i was on my work experience but at that point i had no idea what this blog would end up like so i decided not to write about it. Now, however, i shall.
So i got a work experience placement at my mams friends business (she works there but its really her husbands). Basically, theres the owner, his wife (my mams friend) and then 4 employees. Its a company that makes adverts for the radio for other companies.
It was a pretty non-formal atmosphere and dress code. All of the staff were nice aswell. So during the time i was there, i done lots of different things and i shall now list a few:
Wrote an advert - it was for a fish and chips shop and i wrote an advert for it based around the idea of fish and chips being a popular british thing. The advert was written and then sent off to a radio station to record (the company i was at would have happily recorded it but the fish and chip shop decided they wanted the radio station it was being played on to record it instead, maybe it was cheaper or something). So, just for the script for that 30 second advert, the company i was at got £140 or thereabouts.
Edited together an advert - with strong assistance from Mark (the techy) i put together an advert for Metlife. Not much to say about this apart from the program was great and had all sorts of effects. Would take about a weeks training to be able to manage my way around it by myself though cause it was very complicated.
Poisoned the staff - Ok, well through the whole time i was there i never had to go through to the special kitchen they had (which had a shower in for some reason..) and make a cup of tea but at one point i decided i wanted one so i went and asked anyone else if they would like one. 1 person did. So i went through to the kitchen and made the tea. Everything was going fine and then it came to putting the milk in. I opened a new milk bottle and there were bits around the top of it and i wasn't sure what was wrong with it but thought i would leave it instead of chucking their milk out when it could be ok later. So i left it and just used the other one instead. I delivered the tea and thought nothing of it. Then about 2 hours later someone asked if people wanted tea and 3 people (me not included) did. So he went and made it. Then he came back and handed the tea out. About 5 minutes later somebody said "does this milk taste a bit strange to anyone?" and then they realised the problem.. the milk had went off.
Starred in a radio advert - Well i couldn't say i exactly starred in it, i had a part in it. They recorded all the staff (plus me) saying some words and then they put them together and used them in the advert.
Talked to someone live in london - Well i didn't do most of the talking, Mark did. But he had a voiceover in london who had a proffesional mic and recording room set-up. But putting this and the very high quality speakers together made it sound like she was standing next to you in the room. Plus she had one of those voices which not many people have where you hear it and you think "what a great voice" and it was a bit radio-sounding and official. Its an odd thing to say but thats the only thing i could describe it as.
So that, plus lots of smaller things, made up my work experience, and it was good.
I'm going on holiday on Thursday night for 3 weeks. I have a little surprise for the blog readers for when i'm on holiday. I'll post a blog post on Thursday and then if i have internet access on my holiday, i'll post stuff then.
