Social Bookmarking - Is this the "thing" of 2007?

Youtube was the "thing" of 2006 with it shooting up in popularity over the year and people are continuing to use it on a daily basis.

So if 2006 was the year for Video Sharing then what is it for 2007? Well we're 3 months in and i think it may be Social Bookmarking.

Social Bookmarking sites are where people go on, post a link to some content they like on the internet be it a news article, a video they liked or even just a picture and then people can rate the content with the most popular ones going onto the front page of the site.

Unlike Video Sharing, there are 3 current main competitors, all trying to be the number 1 Social Bookmarking website but there is 1 which seems to be in the lead so far - Digg.

On Digg the conent is put into categories and then people can go and look in those categories for the popular content or click the "Upcoming Stories" button and see the content which is still trying to get popular. You can then click "Digg it" on the upcoming stories and on the popular content and it'll then be put onto your profile page for you to view quickly later and your vote will be added to the story.

2 of Diggs main competitors are Reddit and Delicious, both used by thousands of people every single day.
