Drama Exam

posted under by Andrew Hart
Ok, today i had my drama exam. Well between the start of school and breaktime, all of the drama students (about 40) watched 2 plays and then had break as normal and then after break we came back and after watching 2 more groups perform, it was our turn.

Our group went into the room next door to prepare and then the examiner came through and told us that he wasnt there to pick faults and to deduct as many marks as possible and that he was there to give us marks and assess what we've done well.

So we were all really nervous and shaking and then we went infront of the stage, give our candidate numbers and then the lights went off and we got onto the stage the best we could with the lights off.

When the lights came on, you could see lots of silouetted black heads with a bright light above them and it seemed kinda weird. The bit i was most worried about was the stnading still part near the start where Terri and Alex (2 people in my group) were doing a scene and me and Dan (the other person) were doing a freeze frame on stage. Turned out to be absolutely fine though and i didn't move an inch.

Something i was relieved with was the fact that i didn't laugh when the audience did and i managed to stop it most of the time and when it did it was a little smirk which i managed to quickly hide with a confused look or something.

I dunno how but, as everyone else says, you kinda forget that the examainer is there once you're on the stage since you cant see him or anyong else much when you look into the audience. The audience laughter also helps because its a motivation. We've been performing this since January and we once had an audience of 5 people and the rest of the time it was either performed to nobody else or to the teacher who, after seeing it a dozen times before, doesn't laugh. So 40 people laughing at it is a motivation and just makes you think "oh wait, this is funny isn't it." because after doing it for so long you kinda forget.

I die at the end (sorry to spoil it for you) and then as i'm lying on the floor i'm listening to Alex and Terri saying their last lines and after doing a "Oh henry (Alexs character), you've made me the happiest woman on earth." bit (or words to that effect) and then hear Alex made a "wuuoop" noise and then the audience bursts out laughing. I later found out that put the stick he was carrying infront of where his penis is and swung it up to imitate a penis going erect.

When the lights went off there was a massive cheer and we went off with the lights still off.

So then a few more interesting unrelated things happened that day which i might tell you about in another post (this ones been long enough).

Thanks for reading! :D
